BOOKS & BAGELS:
An Occasional Parent-Child Reading/Book Club
Sunday, January 21 at 9:20 am at Bruegger’s on Washington
We’ll be discussing It Ain’t So Awful, Falafel by Firoozeh Dumas. Zomorod (Cindy) Yousefzadeh is the new kid on the block…for the fourth time. California’s Newport Beach is her family’s latest perch, and she’s determined to shuck her brainy loner persona and start afresh with a new Brady Bunch name—Cindy. It’s the late 1970s, and fitting in becomes more difficult as Iran makes U.S. headlines with protests, revolution, and finally the taking of American hostages. Even mood rings and puka shell necklaces can’t distract Cindy from the anti-Iran sentiments that creep way too close to home. A poignant yet lighthearted middle grade debut from the author of the best-selling Funny in Farsi. Grab a kid (any age!) and have a read, and then come for a bagel breakfast and good discussion. Sign up next to the office or RSVP to Pastor Melanie: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Sunday, January 28 following the 10:30 am worship
The congregation will discuss and vote on the budget for 2018 and hear any other updates. Please make every effort to attend.
Saturday, February 10
10:00 am – 12:00 pm
(9:45 am carpool from Grace…or meet us there, but street parking is tight)
Andrew Riverside Presbyterian Church, 403 8th Ave. SE, Minneapolis 55414
All Grace folks are invited to our annual Mission Board Retreat, a gathering to focus on the theme of “Sacred Space”: with Grace’s future building in mind, to imagine and dream about creative and inclusive use of space for a couple of hours in a facility that has been rebuilt following a fire years ago. A short part of our time together we’ll hear from some of their members about the evolution of their space. The rest of the time, we’ll explore ideas, brainstorm, get to know each other better and listen to one another as we discern God’s calling for us in the Grace community. Coffee and morning treats provided. RSVP to Pastor Mary: email@example.com.
