Baptized We Live is the new member class offered three times a year. This is open to soon-to-be members, existing members, and others who are interested in participating. We explore what a Lutheran Christian is, review Lutheran history and what it means to follow Christ in this day and age.
Great Decisions is a nationally sponsored program that reviews current foreign policy issues that are of vital importance to the United States. The Great Decisions program is directed by the Foreign Policy Association (FPA) in New York City, and implemented in local communities by civic, educational and religious institutions and associations. The Minnesota International Center, located on the U of M campus just a few blocks from Grace, is the Minnesota sponsor for Great Decisions.
Each year the Foreign Policy Association selects eight issues for study. The FPA provides a briefing book annually, describing all eight issues under consideration for the year. The briefing book contains well-researched, impartial articles, providing background and current data as well as the advantages and disadvantages of alternative policy decisions.
In addition to reading the briefing book, Great Decisions participants have the opportunity to take part in lecture/discussion programs led by knowledgeable individuals. These discussion sessions are an excellent way to learn more about the issue and share ideas with others in a non-partisan environment. Currently, there are over 50 discussion groups in the Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota, including one at Grace.
Great Decisions has been available at Grace since 2005. We meet at 7:00 pm on the 4th Monday of the month, excluding December, January, July and August. Members of the group pay for their books (about $17 – $18) and provide a small contribution toward the cost of the speakers. The total charge varies each year, depending on the number of people in the group. Grace has also offered the option to attend single meetings for a small fee. For a list of upcoming topics and speakers, please visit Great Decisions – Fall 2015.
